Last week I was invited down to Rub Smokehouse for an event with a twist. The evening promised all you can eat pizza, however the catch was that these were not your average pizzas.
Rub Smokehouse has a reputation for delivering the whacky and the wild when it comes to food. From The Kitchen Sink (a ridiculous amount of ice cream served in a kitchen sink!) to their ridiculous burgers (see here). So when they said the pizzas were not going to be your average pizza, I was both intrigued and nervous of what lay ahead…
We arrived on Wednesday evening to be greeted by pizza pretty much immediately. We started off with the mega cheese feast known as the Mac n Cheetos. A pizza topped with cheetos and mac n cheese. When something pretty much has ALL the cheese, I’m gonna love it, which I did. At this point we ordered some drinks as well. The only downside is that they took a while to arrive, I think this was because of the challenge going on around normal table service. We had the margaritas (Laura and I) but we weren’t impressed. The Long Island Iced Teas we ordered later on were far better!
Next up I tried the Nacho Pizza. Guac, salsa, sour cream, cheese and broken up tortilla chips were the topping in this one. I really enjoyed this pizza. I’m a huge fan of nachos anyway, so it was always going to be a winner for me.
Then along came everyone’s favourite from the evening. This was the Korean Chicken Pizza. The sauce was sweet and spicy, the pulled chicken was tender, the prawn crackers added a crunch (!) and of course there was chilli, it was just delicious. We kept jumping for more slices of this, it really was tasty!
Last but not least the Idaho State Fair Pizza. Basically everything from a fairground hot dog on a pizza. As well as sliced hot dog, there were fried onions and popcorn (!), with mustard and ketchup on top. I liked this, but it wasn’t my favourite. The popcorn didn’t do it for me as it was a bit soggy by the time it got to us and I’m not a huge fan of American mustard.
I must admit. We wimped out on the all you can eat challenge (although Laura did give it a good go!) It was still awesome to check out the weird and wonderful pizza on offer. Rub Smokehouse I’ll be back to check out the rest of the menu soon, as I kept seeing burgers go past and I now have to check them out!
Have you done an all you can eat challenge before? What random pizza topping would you liked to have tried? Let me know in the comments,
P.S. We were invited down to Rub Smokehouse try the pizza out for ourselves, but we paid for our drinks. As ever all words, photos and opinions are my own.
