Dinner with a Twist at Friar Street Kitchen | Worcester

October 18, 2017

Last week I booked in a catch up dinner with a close friend. After hearing great things about it, we decided to check out what all the fuss was about at Friar Street Kitchen.

Opening last year Friar Street Kitchen is an independent restaurant promising fresh and local produce. Known for their steak (see Pershore Patty’s post) but also their quirky specials. This visit was all about the latter for my friend and I. We had booked in for the Autumnal Picnic Bench Sharer.

Friar Street Kitchen - Savoury Food

The picnic bench started out as a summer afternoon tea affair. But Friar Street Kitchen have given them an autumnal makeover. As I’m a huge fan of sharing meals (tapas, mezze, etc) I was quite looking forward to this. Don’t worry guys, it may have been served on a picnic bench, but we had plates to eat off!

Included on the bench per person is a whole heap of foodie goodies. Savoury wise you get a homemade sausage plait, a mini slider and a mini cod and chips. As I’m a savoury fiend this was my favourite part of the meal! The mini slider was tasty, but for me the fish and chips was a stand out. Crisp batter, with flaky cod and chunky skin on chips. Perfect! I probably could’ve had more chips, but that’s just me being greedy…

Friar Street Kitchen - Mince Pies

For dessert you get mini donuts with caramel and chocolate dips. As well as mini blueberry and chocolate muffins and scones with clotted cream and jam. You also get a choice of hot chocolate, tea, coffee or milkshake. At ยฃ16.95 per head it really is quite a feast! I forgot to take a proper pic of my hot chocolate, I drank it far too quickly! We really enjoyed the mini donuts dipped in caramel – divine!

You might see in my pictures a mince pie snuck on to our bench as well. I know they had been testing the Christmas menu… so I’m hoping this means Friar Street Kitchen will be offering a Christmas Picnic Bench in the coming months… I’m hoping so!

Overall, our dining experience was great. Mid week the restaurant had a laid back feel but service was still attentive. We even had a sneaky strawberry gin and tonic with our meal (drank far too quickly to picture). Whilst we ate, there were many people around for the normal menu and I got quite envious (despite being very full) or their dinners. So I’ve just booked Dr W and I in with some friends when they visit in December for the Christmas menu. I’m already very excited!
