Runniversary | Salford 10k

September 17, 2015

The other weekend saw the Salford 10k swing by again, I wrote about last year’s but felt I should write about this year’s too as it was a very special race, it was Dr C’s first runniversary!

Salford 10k is special to Dr C as it was her first 10k, so it seemed apt to run it a year to the date for her first runniversary! The course is also lovely and flat, which makes it a nice race to do. Also the fact that it started by the BBC this year meant we got to play around with the TARDIS and even the Darleks!

We made sure we arrived early to make the most of the bag drop (so glad there was one this year- makes life so much easier!) and also to have a brew and some toast at Penelope’s Kitchen before getting started. Like last year the weather was good, it started off a bit nippy but was still sunny, which only means one thing, it’s going to get hotter! The minimal clouds were burnt away by the end of the race so I’m totally glad I’d coated myself in sunscreen before we started. When we got outside I noticed the race was definitely bigger this year, but the different starting place (outside BBC) was so much better, it wasn’t as hemmed in as last years start across the water at the Lowry Plaza. After the starting horn we didn’t have long to wait to cross the start line either despite being at the back, which is always good- I hate waiting around/getting cold!

We knew we were going to have a slow race this year, I have had a dodgy time with my arthritis lately so my training had not been as good as I’d wanted and the silly Dr C had decided to get a MASSIVE tattoo on her leg a week before. So we aimed to enjoy it and get around and not give up as it was a runniversary after all! I was again running for Manchester Mind and I’m glad we got round (1:19:42), this is my 3rd and final 10k of the year for them! It was very hot though and I did suffer for a day or so after with the affects of the heat, I shall be buying a cap for summer racing next year and upping my water intake for definite!

So congratulations to Dr C on your first runniversary and we hope to make it back to Salford in 2016 for the second!

Have you run any races this year? Did you run the Salford 10k? Let me know in the comments,

Thank you 🙂 Definitely a worthwhile charity! I actually managed 6 this year, but picked the ones in Manchester for the fundraising!

Awww this is lovely, what a great way to remember the first run and I love the TARDIS at the beginning of the post – you can never beat a good photo opportunity with the TARDIS. I hope your arthritis settle down soon – one of my closest friends has struggled with that for a good few years, she’s had it from a young age, so I know how horrible it got for her when it flared up. – Tasha

Definitely I had to get a pic in with the TARDIS! Thank you- it’s started to settle down a bit but it’s probably the stress of PhD crap that’s not helping.

There can never be too many TARDIS photos – hope it settles for you soon.

Well done on completing the race! I have my first official 10k in October, I’ve only run 5k races so far this year.

Congrats to you & Dr C for running this 10k, that is a huge success! I’m sorry to hear about your arthritis, that sucks! I hope you tackle it next year too x
