Recently exercise has been the last thing on my mind. With our big move to think about, travelling between Manchester and Worcester, as well as my arthritis to put up with, it’s been far from being planned into my schedule.
I must admit I’ve been lucky in a way that my commute involves a hefty walk at either end at the moment. I push myself to walk quickly as much as I can and it works out at almost 7k a day. So for 5/7 days I’m getting my 10k steps in (I do a lot of running round a hospital during the day too) and this has really helped keep me fit. I found this out when we went hiking a few weekends back and I honestly thought I would die struggle, but nope, my legs worked really well and I coped just fine.
Once I’ve moved I fully intend on easing back into more challenging exercise though. I have spied a gym across the road from our new flat, which upon googling I have discovered offers spinning classes- something I had to give up when I started my crazy commute! I have also found a swimming pool 15 minutes walk from the flat, so I can start swimming again. These are positives, as my long term goal is to be back at peak fitness for our winter holiday for Mr W’s 30th, which will involve a lot of climbing, hiking and skiing next year in Scotland.
Before I get back into it though I’ve decided to sort through my gym gear. Moving is the perfect time for a huge sort out of the wardrobe. I am keeping my crazy patterned leggings and slogan t-shirts, but I have added in a new piece of work out wear. This wonderful jacket from Athena Apparels is going to be really useful for keeping warm from my walk between the pool and the flat during the summer. And it’s 4 way stretch and wicking capabilities will be great for wearing whilst running in the winter months too. This is perfect as I’d like to be back out running by autumn. If you like the look of their kit, then why not help Athena Apparels with their kick starter? They are aiming to to get women excited to exercise with great quality kit and make their specially designed kit for women more easily available.
So do you have any summer training plans? What gym gear do you need to get you motivated? Let me know in the comments,
P.S. Athena Apparels sent me the jacket for review. As ever all opinions and photos are my own.
