Summer Training Plans

June 2, 2016

Recently exercise has been the last thing on my mind. With our big move to think about, travelling between Manchester and Worcester, as well as my arthritis to put up with, it’s been far from being planned into my schedule.

I must admit I’ve been lucky in a way that my commute involves a hefty walk at either end at the moment. I push myself to walk quickly as much as I can and it works out at almost 7k a day. So for 5/7 days I’m getting my 10k steps in (I do a lot of running round a hospital during the day too) and this has really helped keep me fit. I found this out when we went hiking a few weekends back and I honestly thought I would die struggle, but nope, my legs worked really well and I coped just fine.

Once I’ve moved I fully intend on easing back into more challenging exercise though. I have spied a gym across the road from our new flat, which upon googling I have discovered offers spinning classes- something I had to give up when I started my crazy commute! I have also found a swimming pool 15 minutes walk from the flat, so I can start swimming again. These are positives, as my long term goal is to be back at peak fitness for our winter holiday for Mr W’s 30th, which will involve a lot of climbing, hiking and skiing next year in Scotland.

Athena Apparels Workout Outfit

Before I get back into it though I’ve decided to sort through my gym gear. Moving is the perfect time for a huge sort out of the wardrobe. I am keeping my crazy patterned leggings and slogan t-shirts, but I have added in a new piece of work out wear. This wonderful jacket from Athena Apparels is going to be really useful for keeping warm from my walk between the pool and the flat during the summer. And it’s 4 way stretch and wicking capabilities will be great for wearing whilst running in the winter months too. This is perfect as I’d like to be back out running by autumn. If you like the look of their kit, then why not help Athena Apparels with their kick starter? They are aiming to to get women excited to exercise with great quality kit and make their specially designed kit for women more easily available.

P.S. Athena Apparels sent me the jacket for review. As ever all opinions and photos are my own.

I recently invited in a similar jacket to this as i’ve started doing bootcamp and it’s great for keeping me warm outdoors but is still lightweight 🙂 xx

Oh yes it would definitely be perfect for boot camp!

It’s great that you will be close to a swimming pool. There are no pools in the centre of Liverpool (apart from the ones in hotels with expensive fees) so when I moved to the Wirral I was pleasantly surprised to find that my house was close to a pool. I haven’t been yet but I can’t wait to go.

I’m just doing yoga at home at the moment and a few muscles strengthening exercises for my hips. To my surprise I’m actually really enjoying it!

I have the opposite problem in MCR! We have the Aquatics Centre in the city, but on the outskirts they all tend to be private gyms or open at odd times so I can’t get to them! I do really want to get back into yoga but my mat is packed, may be I’ll be able too when I am all settled in the new flat!

I have a little home gym consisting of a resistance training band, a pilates mat and my body weight. Haha, while I love hiking and the great outdoors, it’s a lot harder to do it consistently!

Sounds good! All mine are packed up (bands/mats etc) so I’m just walking everywhere until I settle into the new place. We try and get hiking once a month, but I just want to do exercise that will help me when we do get to hike, spinning should definitely help 🙂

I’m determined to get moving more this summer. Cross-training, walking, and swimming – I’d like to be feeling a bit healthier before our big US trip in September.

Yeah I’m just feeling a bit unmotivated at the moment, hopefully once we’ve moved all my new amenities will inspire me more- lets hope!

Gym clothes can give a much needed boost to an exercise regime, I like your gear. It makes you want to wear it & do something. I’m just getting back into weight training, God, I need it lol xo

So true! I’d love to get back into weights, I’ve lost so much strength lately.
