5 Happy Things #17 | Christmas Blog News

December 21, 2016

My my it’s been a bit busy in the run up to Christmas. I have to admit my inspiration on the blog side of things has been desperately lacking. However, I do have a couple of recipes to share with you in the run up to Christmas. So do keep an eye out for these.

My last posts will be on 23rd December then I have a feeling I will be off until the new year. I have a lot of things on over Christmas and I think a break is very much needed. I promise to be back in the new year with loads of recipes and fun! But for now, here are my 5 Happy Things…

5 Happy Things-Christmas

#1- Christmas!

So yeah it’s Christmas this weekend. I’m stressing coz Dr W’s gift isn’t here and I haven’t sorted another thing out. But I’m hoping a little trip to John Lewis tonight will fix both of these things. I have got a bit of excitement in me though… I had such an awful holiday last year with the rubbish of my PhD viva prep. This year I have to do a bit of work from home, but nothing compared to stressing about a PhD viva. To anyone waiting on theirs in the new year, you can do it.

5 Happy Things-Light Box

#2- My new lightbox

Ok so mega blogger cliche here, but I bought a dinky sized light box and I love it. I’ve now started a little countdown to Christmas but I’ve also had fun writing messages for Dr W on it. I reckon I’ll be taking this one to the office in the new year though, I’m going to end up treating myself to a larger one over Christmas I think!

5 Happy Things Graduation

#3- Dr W’s graduation

So yes, Mr W has become Dr W. We went to Manchester last week to celebrate and we really did. Both of us finished our PhDs this year, moved cities and started new jobs. It’s been MEGA. So we had a mega celebration. I imagine Christmas will involve more of the same. It was wonderful to see our Mancunian friends though, I’ve missed them and the city quite a bit lately. Hopefully we will get back to Manchester early in the new year.

5 Happy Things Lake District

#4- The Lake District

After a couple of days in Manchester we headed to the Lakes. How wonderful this was! We ate even more (oh my so much food whilst we were away!) and we hiked (to try and shift some of the excess). We also hired a motor boat and went around Coniston Water, getting a glimpse at the Swallows and Amazon island. A very happy weekend indeed.

5 Happy Things-Bar and Block Birmingham

#5- Bar + Block, Birmingham

Last but not least, I recently started writing for Tasting Britain. My first assignment was visiting Bar + Block in Birmingham. I reviewed their tasty festive menu, well worth a visit if you get a chance! Stay tuned for more posts with Tasting Britain.

So what’s been making you happy lately? Let me know in the comments,

Last year was my first Christmas where I didn’t have uni/college/school work to do over the break and it felt so good! I’m glad you’ve not got too much work to be doing.

Congratulations to Mr W for graduating. You’ve had a lot of big life changes this year!

Now that we have a car I’m dying to visit the Lake District more. It’s such a beautiful place. Hiring a boat sounds like so much fun!

    Have a great Christmas!

Aaah I have lightbox envy. I so kinda want one but like you, am aware of the cliche!
We just moved to Manchester too – moving is sooo stressful! Can’t imagine also pairing it with a job move too :O Well done!

We moved away from Manchester! I miss it so, there’s loads of Manchester suggestions on my blog- I lived there for 10 years 🙂 I think you should get a light box anyway 😉

Loving your light box Emma! It really does sound like it’s been an epically stressful year for you both and you’ve both come out of the other side now – well done!! And I’m very jealous of your Lake District trip – I’ve lived in Manchester for over 5 years now and I’m ashamed to say I’ve only been to the Lakes once!

    • Reply MissPond December 21, 2016 at 7:19 pm

It’s been pretty mad, formally glad it’s over! You need to get to the lakes, you’d love the foodie options 🙂
