5 Happy Things #19

January 20, 2017

Hello! Back again today with a 5 Happy Things update. We’ve had a very topsy turvy fortnight and I’ve found myself turing to the positives to keep me going.

#1- Scotland holiday

We booked our holiday all the way back in February last year! But now time is marching on and we head to Scotland in just over three weeks. I can’t wait, I’m so excited and even if there’s no snow it’ll still be so much fun. We’re going with some of our best friends and have booked a very plush house that includes a hot tub, games room and sauna. Oh yeah!

#2- Rick Stein recipes

Our New Year’s resolution was to start using our huge stash of recipe books more often. After discovering a local shop where we could get all the amazing spices and ingredients we needed, we’ve embraced our Rick Stein recipe books. The recipes seem complicated, but they really aren’t and honestly we’ve made some of the best food I’ve ever eaten from them.

#3- Kanken backpack

My poor shoulder was getting such a battering using a handbag for commuting. Plus my favourite handbag was getting ruined in the commuter crush. Seeing my pal Sarah’s Kanken backpack I knew what I wanted. I found one last weekend in Birmingham and even managed to get a discount on it (Woop!) I love the bright colour, it definitely cheers up those dreary commutes and is the perfect size for all my stuff.

#4- New stationery

I got so much stationery for Christmas that I need never buy anymore ever again. (I probably still will though…) My sister got me an amazing social media planner that I need to put to use. I also got some beautiful letter writing paper off my mum.

#5- Tea and chocolate

My two favourite things. Recently I’ve been sent both. The tea set is from Tea Time Tea, a company based in Manchester who package pick n mix tea boxes. I’ll be sharing a few of my favourites in a post soon. The chocolate is from Chocolate and Love. Offering amazing flavoured dark chocolates that are both vegan and gluten free. I plan on sharing a vegan cookie recipe using the chocolate with you soon.

Work’s been busy and we’ve had a lot on, but remembering the positives is always very grounding for me. What’s been making you happy lately? Let me know in the comments,

SO jealous of your Scottish trip, it sounds lovely! Also, I love Rick Stein’s programmes but have literally never cooked any of his recipes – I need to change that! Any recommendations?

His India and Eastern Odyssey books are INCREDIBLE. I love Asian food so have been using the Eastern Odyssey one a lot lately.

I know what you mean – January can feel so slow so I always try to fill it with fun (free!) bits to do. Absolutely love that yellow backpack!

It was definitely a very slow month, Feb has zoomed past in comparison.
