5 Happy Things #26 | Food, Fun & Friends Edition

February 19, 2018

It’s been a while since I wrote one of these posts. It’s not that I haven’t wanted too, but having a bit of a break over Christmas messed up my blogging schedule a bit. So here I am, back with my latest 5 Happy Things.

This 5 Happy Things edition is aptly titled the Food, Fun & Friends Edition. The last few weeks for me have been centred around these things. Purely coz house buying is super effing stressful and I’ve needed fun plans around adulting above my station. Because there is noting like feeling so out of your depths stood in your newly built house discussing contracts. Anyway, this is all coming to a blog post near you soon. Until then, here is my latest 5 Happy Things.

5-Happy-Things-Baked-Goods

#1 Baked Goods

Ok since I discovered the joys of baked goods up north at Depot Bakery (Sheffield) and Siop Shop (Manchester). I have been searching for other delicious indie bakeries to check out. For reasons allied to house hunting I ended up in London last month. I used this trip to finally cross off Crosstown Doughnuts off my bakery list. Not the best (Siop Shop still winning for me) but pretty darn good all the same. More recently I have finally made it to Medicine Bakery for cronuts (they have awks opening hours for me and I am rarely in Brum at the weekends). The Hazelnut and Praline Cronut is the one FYI.

#2 Exploring the V&A Museum

Whilst in London I had some time to kill so I headed to the V&A Museum for the first time in years. When I got there I discovered they have a Winnie the Pooh Exhibition on. Reading Winnie the Pooh is a cherished memory to me, so I couldn’t not go. It was £8 and I must have been in there for over an hour mesmerised by Sheperd’s beautiful drawings and letters between him and Milne. If you have a chance to go, it’s on until the 8th of April and I really would recommend.

5-Happy-Things-House-Buying-Adventures

#3 House Buying Adventure

Ok so we’re buying a house. It’s taken us a long time to save, and we’ve worked effing hard to do so. We saw quite a few houses, all had good and bad bits. We were gonna wait a bit longer to see what came up on the market. But then we discovered availability in a new build plot. We saw the show home, we discovered Help to Buy and that was that. We couldn’t let this opportunity disappear. Keep your fingers and toes crossed that everything goes to plan!

#4 Friends

I’ve been very very lucky to make some amazing friends in the last year or so. I’m not sure where I’d be without them. The other weekend a group of us got together for a lovely brunch at Boston Tea Party. It’s lovely to get to know people who are on the same page and we just get along with each other. Also it all helps when your mutual love in life is food! Hehe!

#5 Indian Brewery Street Food Feast

We followed up brunch last week with lunch this week. We headed to the Indian Brewery at Snowhill in Birmingham for an absolute feast. Spoiler Alert: the food is incredible. The gin selection is very good too. It was great to catch up and chat about yet another stressful week (yay house buying). I will be sharing more about this later in the week, as it’s an experience worth sharing with you all!

So that’s my latest 5 Happy Things! Let me know what’s been making you happy recently? Let me know in the comments,

I really hope the Winnie the Pooh exhibit tours as we have a V&A gallery right next to work and I would love to get the chance to see it!

I’ve never had a cronut! The shame! Damn they look good!

Hopefully it does – it was such a wonderful exhibition 🙂

I’m laughing about the baked goods! I couldn’t agree more. Nothing makes me feel warm and cozy inside quite like a nice butter croissant.

Thank you! We actually exchanged contracts today, so that was quite exciting. I really recommend all of the donut places I have mentioned, but Siop Shop were definitely the best.
