It’s that time again, I can’t believe a fortnight has passed since my last Happy Things post. Time flies when you’re having fun (or just crazily busy) doesn’t it?! But yes, hello I am back with another 5 Happy Things!
As ever a mix of food and drink. I could probably be called a glutton. It just turns out my friends enjoy food and drink as much as I do. And I’m always looking for any excuse to celebrate/socialise/etc. So this time my 5 Happy Things are…
#1 Snow Days
Yup, we got snow and quite a lot of it too. I was stuck in Worcester on Friday thanks to the trains being suspended. Eventual daylight pictures of the snow drifts proved why! Luckily it’s starting to melt today, but on Saturday Dr W and I went for a walk around the city in the snow before it started to melt. We had a lot more than in December so had to get out and enjoy it. Although it was still very cold, we stopped off for tea and coffee after a bit to warm back up.
#2 Comfort Food
It’s been unbelievably cold with the winter storm we experienced this week. So we’ve been cooking all of the comfort food. Because not only is it comforting, batch cooking means lazy leftovers! Commuting in the cold was exhausting so it’s so much easier to get home and recook dinner. One thing we’ve really enjoyed this week is a recipe I wrote for Brockman’s Gin – this Venison Stew. I really recommend it and it would definitely work with beef if game isn’t your thing.
#3 Exciting House News
I think I can get even more excited about house stuff now. We’ve exchanged contracts and parted with a portion of our money. It was scary as hell sitting and signing contracts with our solicitor. But it’s going to be worth it, I know it! We’re now on the count down to finding out from our builder when our house is ready. It won’t be long now hopefully! Just got to start packing… In the mean time we’ve ”celebrated” the occasion several times. Including drinks at my favourite bar in Worcester – The Old Rectifying House.
#4 The Vanguard
I have a bigger post on this place to come readers. But let’s just say, this bar is a bit special. FYI has nothing to do with GoT (thanks B’ham Mail) but everything to do with amazing drinks. The owner Sam has a real passion for proper drinks (no confusing cocktail menus here) as well as trying to get everyone into mead. I was under the illusion that it’s a crazily sweet almost liqueur, I could not have been so wrong! But as I said, the full low down is for it’s own post!
#5 Boozy Brunches
My wonderful friend Laura managed to bag us spaces in the soft launch of Lost & Found in Brum. They’ve recently had a makeover and we went to check out the bottomless brunch. I’m going to, again, be posting about this separately, but let’s just say the unlimited mimosas gave me a Monday hangover… I won’t be repeating that again for a while!
What’s been making you happy lately? Let me know in the comments,
