5 Happy Things #35 | Bank Holiday Edition

August 28, 2018

After the long weekend I’m back again with another 5 Happy Things. For me the bank holiday was pretty quiet, the last few weeks have been busy and I spent a few days away this week, which meant I needed some time at home!

It wasn’t an entirely quiet weekend though, we had a four legged friend come stay the night with us on Saturday, but more on that in a bit… Here are my 5 Happy Things…

5-Happy-Things-Sheffield

#1 – Sheffield

Like I said, I have been a way a bit this week. I went up to Sheffield for work reasons, but whilst I was there I got to catch up with some really good friends of mine including Dr C. We went to Temple of Fun for dinner (more on that soon) and I finally visited Steam Yard. The baked goods are worth the visit alone, but next time I’m going to have to get one of their grilled cheese sandwiches too. Sheffield still remains one of my favourite cities (and the work side of my visit went really well too)!

5-Happy-Things-Friday-Night-Pizza

#2 – Friday night pizza

So after a week interrupted with a few nights up north I got to Friday and really couldn’t be bothered. I’ve been regularly swimming on a Friday night again, so did that as usual. But when Dr W picked me up from the pool I only had to say the word and off to Pizza Hut we went. It was worth it though, we got a deal and a ridiculous amount of pizza, which meant enough leftover for lunch the next day (woo!)

5-Happy-Things-Parkrun-Breakfast

#3 – Earning breakfast at Parkrun

Obviously to run off all that pizza from the night before and to earn my breakfast I headed to Parkrun as usual on Saturday morning. I took Dr W along with me again, it was number 6 for him (yay) and number 25 for me (yay ever closer to 50)! No PB for me this week, I instead was working on my race day technique (steady early on and saving energy for sprinting at the end). Whereas Dr W got another PB – well done Dr W! It was another great Parkrun for me, and this coming weekend I am looking forward to a spot of Parkrun tourism at Brixton Parkrun with my friend Sarah.

5-Happy-Things-Dog-Sitting

#4 – Dog sitting

After Parkrun on Saturday we sorted the house out ready for our most recent and most special house guest. Some friends of ours asked us to look after their lovely pooch for the night and we agreed. It was really lovely to have a pet for the weekend, it’s a shame we’ve no time for a permanent four legged friend in our house (both of us are out of the house 12/13 hours a day during the week). But we would definitely dog sit again, it was great fun!

5-Happy-Things-Time-with-Dr-W

#5 – Time with Dr W

This was much needed. Being away for the first half of last week and plans to go away again at the end of this week our time together is precious. On Saturday we drank red wine and ate dim sum. FYI that red wine in my picture is delicious and I would highly recommend. On Sunday we had another quiet night together (sadly Dr W doesn’t get bank holidays) and Dr W cooked us a wonderful roast pork. Pork that was cooked so low and slow it just fell apart. It was delicious and the perfect cure for my 10k run I did Sunday afternoon.

How was your long weekend (if you had one)? What’s been making you happy lately? Let me know in the comments,

MISSPOND X

Such a cutie! I really do wish we had time for our own dog, but dog sitting will have to do for now.

I’ve been following your running while training myself… you’re silently keeping me motivated to keep getting out there. Good work Em.

Well done on doing the Park Run. my husband started doing that. Love the photos of your food as of course you need to eat well if you are doing all that running!

I missed having the chance to pet sit or even the possibility of a pet when we lived in the flat.

Reading that made me feel tired! I’m tying to get my kids into Parkrun as I desperately need to start myself!

it sounds like a lovely weekend – well done for parkrun. I actually got up and went to ours (at the end of the street) to see some RunMND posse. Norm is getting back to his Parkrun PB (I didn’t run obvs 😉 ). It was lovely to see our pals. Love Bec xx

Have you thought about walking it? I’ve volunteered as the tail walker a couple of times and rather enjoyed it!

I love this post. Nice things to be happy for. I admire your park run. I live very close to Heaton Park in Manchester but at 58 with a recently diagnosed knee problem and I’ve been advised no impact sports. We too have a doggy house guest for a week. We haven’t had a dog of our own for 2 years now so being able to care for someone else’s is lovely. This is his second stay with us and he’s a sweetie – always welcome here. Have a good week 🙂

Ah that’s a shame about your knees. I’m making the most of them while I still have them (I have RA). It was lovely to dog sit, I definitely want to do it again!
