How to Enjoy a Restful Weekend Alone

November 22, 2017

Don’t get me wrong, I love living with Dr W, I cherish the time I have with my family and very much enjoy spending time with friends. But sometimes you just need that restful weekend alone.

So when Dr W headed off to see some friends down south one weekend, and after a long few weeks at work, I made the conscious decision to not fill this free weekend with plans like I normally would. I decided to schedule some proper alone time. Having lived alone for almost four years. I have no issue with time by myself. So I’m here to share with you how I spent my restful weekend alone and maybe give you some tips on how to spend yours.

Colouring In Books and Colouring In Pencils - How to Enjoy a Restful Weekend Alone

Pamper Time – Mind and Body

I started my weekend with a run, opting to run alone instead of the hustle and bustle of Parkrun. I enjoyed one of my favourite playlists made for me by a good friend and enjoyed a long run around Worcester. Time like this is good to collect your thoughts or in my case, just tune out and enjoy the music. When I got back I ran myself a rather wonderful bath (Lord of Misrule bath bomb from Lush) and enjoyed a face mask. After a good pampering, I curled up with my Escape to Wonderland colouring book(Thanks Sarah) and coloured a few pages in, I find that colouring helps keep me calm but it also good for zoning out!

Good Food Magazine and Meal Planning - How to Enjoy a Restful Weekend Alone

Prep for the Week Ahead

I find my job quite intense, this means when I get home from work things need to be easy. OK, yes sometimes I have the patience for a big meal. But generally I meal plan my week ahead so I can make use of my 20-30 min meal recipes. I find Good Food magazine great inspiration and you’ll find loads of quick eats in my recipesWhy yes I have googled my own recipes to remind me how to make them… It also means we cut down on food waste, we don’t over buy if I am out at a blog event or we are away at the weekend.

Chinese Take Away on Table - How to Enjoy a Restful Weekend Alone

Lazy Dinner

So yeah, I love to cook. I cook A LOT. But I tell ya what, when you don’t have to ya really don’t have too. So Deliveroo Dinner from my favourite Chinese takeaway occurred. To be honest there’s nothing like putting a film on and gorging on take out washed down with a big gin and tonic. The best thing about Dr W not being about, cringe worthy chick flicks without question. Bridget Jones’ Baby was this weekend’s film of choice (yum Patrick Dempsey!)

Blog Planner from Dot Creates - How to Enjoy a Restful Weekend Alone

Plan the Future

Last but not least, another thing I enjoy doing is planning. Some quiet time to work out what is going on is just what I need sometimes. I love my Dot Creates Blog Planner, I’ve even managed to implement it as a bit of a diary as well. Dr W and I are currently planning our 2018, aside from some big life plans, we are trying to sort out a holiday. I browsed the Jet2 website to get some ideas, I think at the moment it’s looking like Split or Prague might be the location of our next get away! We haven’t been abroad together in years as we usually opt to travel around the UK. So this will be a fun adventure.

When you have time to yourself what do you do? Do you purposely schedule alone time? Let me know in the comments,

That blog planner is so gorge. I definitely google my old recipes too, though I’ve bought a cookbook which I fill in now when I make a nice recipe! x

Oh you know weekends alone are probably one of the best weekends if you do it right! You clearly know how to enjoy your own company, which I think is a key to self-love! xx

Alan and I tend to do alone time in the week – I will blog and game, and he will watch TV next door.

Ah we do that but I kinda don’t count that as alone time. Sometimes it’s nice to have the house completely to myself for a whole weekend to do what I want!

Not sure how I’d cope otherwise. It really was the original reason for getting into blogging haha
