Celebrate World Gin Day with Edinburgh Gin Afternoon Tea at Harvey Nichols, Birmingham | Gin Diaries

June 8, 2018

Readers, the most important day of the year is upon us, World Gin Day (9th June). This year, I don’t really have much planned for the day, but I do intend on treating myself to a new bottle of gin. However, if you are after something to do in Birmingham, Harvey Nichols have a special Edinburgh Gin Afternoon tea!

This special Harvey Nichols collaboration for World Gin Day is one with Edinburgh Gin. A long standing favourite gin of mine and an afternoon tea collab I was excited to try. I find their Seaside Gin so refreshing for warm summer days, it really is a staple to the Pond Gin Shelf. So I thought I would check it out ahead of the big day so you guys could get an idea of what it’s like!

To accompany the savoury tier we had a cocktail called the Savi Spritz. This was Sauvingnon Blanc, Elderflower Edinburgh Gin Liqueur, topped with soda. It was wonderfully refreshing and went really well with the savoury offerings. The Gin and Tonic Cod was a mini fish and chips, I feel the gin was lost in the batter but the tonic had definitely made the batter lovely and light. Next up was the Duck Leg Croquette, which took in the flavours of the Edinburgh Gin Plum Liqueur, this worked so well. The duck was tender and the sweet plum sauce went really well. There was also a wonderfully light Goat’s Cheese and Vegetable Terrine and an interesting (I’m not usually a fan) Artichoke and Courgette Wrap, which I actually enjoyed.

The sweet treats included a Strawberry and Elderflower Eclair, which I won’t lie was my favourite. Next up was the Peach, Rhubarb and Ginger Gin Tart, using flavours from the Rhubarb Edinburgh Gin Liqueur. This was also a winner for me. Then last up was the Pomegranate and Rose Panna Cotta, which I wasn’t a huge fan of. It was a little too sweet for my liking. But others did enjoy. For people unlike me who can tolerate cucumber consumption, there is also Cucumber Candy Floss. Which I did not try, but the others all really enjoyed!

Obviously no afternoon tea is complete without scones! We were treated to plain scones, which were wonderfully fluffy. Then also some white chocolate and raspberry scones. These were very different, but absolutely divine with clotted cream. With these we enjoyed the Pomegranate, Rose and Prosecco Fizz. This was using a splash of pomegranate, Rose Edinburgh Gin Liquer and of course topped with the prosecco. The prosecco definitely balanced the sweet of the rose and the pomegranate.

So what do you do if you want to try out this wonderful afternoon tea? Well the limited edition Edinburgh Gin Afternoon Tea will be served in the store’s stylish restaurant from 1pm-4pm Monday to Saturday and 3pm-5pm on Sundays throughout June and July. There should be more gin-themed afternoon teas in the world! This sounds brilliant and looks delicious! A cocktail with every tier sounds like the icing on the cake too!

The sweet treats were great, but the gin was even better!

That looks simply amazing! I love afternoon teas and love some of the new flavoured gin (which is becoming trendy as well) so feeling total envy at the moment looking at your photos. Going to head to Harvey Nichols when we get the chance.

The afternoon tea sounds wonderful. I like the look of those scones. Gin instead of tea or Prosecco? Hmm… I have to try! 🙂

You could’ve had tea, but there was just too many cocktail choices!
