You’re the Gin to My Tonic with Flavourly | Gin Diaries

February 12, 2018

Now we’re not big on Valentine’s Day in our household. But when Valentine’s Day can involve gin, I maybe get a bit more interested. That’s where Flavourly comes in.

Flavourly, who famously turned down all their Dragon’s Den investment offers are well known for craft alcohol subscription services. But now they have turned themselves to Letterbox Gin*, just in time for V Day. This box is still available to order (£9.99 + free delivery) and makes the perfect pink gin and tonic. You get two pouches, which you could choose to share or keep both for yourself!

In the box you get are two pouches of the Strathearn Distillery Honey and Raspberry Gin Liqueur. Now I feared this may be a bit sweet for me, especially with the honey in. So when I came to mix this drink, I added more gin. Flavourly suggest you can drink on ice by itself, but I fancied lengthening the experience and making a gin and tonic to enjoy with Dr W. Now he usually orders the pink and girly drinks, so I knew already he would be a fan… But would a picky gin drinker (me) enjoy it? I’ll tell you in a mo, once I’ve told you how I mixed up my drink.

You’re the Gin to My Tonic

To make a cracking Valentine’s G&T you need:

  • A gin copa glass (copa de ballon)
  • 50 ml Starthearn Distillery Honey and Raspberry Gin Liqueur
  • 25 ml Gin (we used Caorrun)
  • Elderflower tonic
  • Lemon and frozen raspberries to garnish
  • Plenty of ice

Put a mountain of ice in the glass and pour the drinks in. Stir and garnish with lemon and raspberries. Enjoy!

You’ll be pleased to know that I really enjoyed this G&T. It was different to what I would normally make myself. I always worry that gin liqueurs will be too sweet, but this really wasn’t, the raspberry added a lot to this drink. The only thing I would’ve enjoyed with my Letterbox Gin from Flavourly is information on how to serve it, but also some background to the gin. But I know not everyone is a gin snob like me and would prefer to just drink the gin!

Would you order Flavourly Letterbox Gin? What are you doing for Valentine’s Day (other than drinking gin we have no plans)? Let me know in the comments,

Saw this too late for Valentines, but it’s my wife’s birthday soon and your G&T sounds great. I’m with Anca in that we much prefer preparing a special meal at home on these special occasions-especially Valentines Day!

Sounds like a fab subscription box. Our plans for Valentine’s Day are as every year: special meal (at home, I’m not keen on crowded restaurants), a few desserts, and drinks, of course.

Sounds wonderful. Dr W is away on business so I shall be enjoying an evening to myself 🙂

I have just fallen in love with Gin after being not a fan for many years. Its amazing the range that’s on offer and what you can add to it to change the taste etc x

There’s so many amazing gins out there. Like I tell non-gin drinkers, it’s a matter of finding one/a combo that works for you!

We don’t do Valentine’s Day either, but when gin is involved… My other half likes the sweet drinks too. I think when it’s a one-off, I would buy gin through the door!

You should really consider opening your own gin bar 😉 xx

It is a tempting idea, but I worry that it would eventually put me off gin!!
