It’s not every day that you’re invited for a posh brunch, well not for me anyway. When Daddy Pond moved to London and found our Dr W and I were visiting, he booked us in a for a very special brunch at Le Pont de la Tour.
Spoiler alert. I’ve been here before, but only for cocktails. So I was very excited to be here to not only check out the food, but also check out the Bottomless Brunch. For those of you who don’t know Le Pont de la Tour is situated right next to Tower Bridge. Brunch was taking place in their swanky grill part of the restaurant. This is comprised of booths with plenty of space for plenty of food and a wonderful view of that bridge. Albeit at the moment behind a bit of scaffolding.
I think I forgot to mention that we were there for the 3 Course Bottomless Brunch. I was excited. Our starters were all egg based (they do cater to veggies and allergies, just let them know when you book in). Dr W and Daddy Pond picked the Eggs Royale, an absolutely stunning affair. Rich smoked salmon, perfect yolks and crispy muffins. They both said the Hollandaise was incredible. Mummy Pond had the Pancakes with Fruit, which she must’ve enjoyed as they didn’t last very long! I opted for Fried Burford Brown Eggs with Avocado on Sour Dough. Absolutely delicious, with creamy and well seasoned avocado and again the eggs were absolutely perfect.
NB. The mimosas have begun to flow and the waiters at Le Pont de la Tour struggle to keep up with us. They give up and leave us a jug of Orange Juice and a bottle of Prosecco at the table… Haha!
Ok so we reach a point where the mains are definitely needed. We ordered heaps of fries, I highly suggest doing this to mop up the alcohol!
Daddy Pond and I both opt for the Brunch Burger, just what you need on a Sunday morning! Cheese, bacon, relish and gherkin in a brioche roll. The patty was melt in your mouth and the bacon was wonderfully smoky. Delicious. Dr W goes with the Duck Confit, Duck and Potato Galette, served with a poached egg and a side of fries. This was rich and tasty, the duck was very flavourful and the egg was the perfect accompaniment. He didn’t let me try much, but what I did try was delicious. Mummy Pond opted for a Rib Eye Steak, but in my mimosa drenched state I didn’t get a picture…. Oops! She tells me it was perfectly cooked (medium-rare) and she enjoyed it.
Every brunch needs a dessert yes?! Well we definitely thought so! Dr W and Daddy Pond opting for the delicious Creme Brulee, just stunning and gigantic! So luckily I got to try this. Mummy Pond and I opted for the Doughnuts with Chantily. My only criticism, not enough cream or compote to go with the doughnuts, but tasty all the same.
After brunch we stumbled back to Daddy Pond’s flat (just over the bridge – lucky him!) and zonked out in front of Sunday telly. It was a wonderful morning/afternoon with my family and I definitely need to go back for dinner next time I think…! So yeah, overall brunch at Le Pont de la Tour was pretty incredible, I’d definitely recommend to anyone who’s looking for a fancy bottomless brunch for a celebration or birthday or just because you fancy it!
