I saw loads of Twitter action about Leeds Indie Food Fest last year, but it was too late to make any of the events by the time I noticed it. So this year I was determined to get myself to at least one of the events. It just so happened that I’ve always wanted to go to Bundobust in Leeds, so when they released Bundobrunch tickets for LIF ’16 I had to go!
Bundobust is not a restaurant, it is a bar that sells Indian street food with an extensive selection of the world’s best craft beer. For LIF ’16 they curated a collaboration with Laynes Espresso to bring a wonderful street food brunch menu.
Seeing as Dr C had moved to Leeds recently, it was a great way for us to catch up. Although she was already in Manchester, so we got the train to Leeds together, with a bottle of Prosecco and some OJ for Buck’s Fizzes of course! We had to start our day off right…
The smell when we got to Bundobust was incredible, there were 3 options on offer, so naturally we grabbed all 3! There were 2 savoury options and 1 sweet. We started off with the savoury, of which there were stand outs in both street food boxes (we shared the boxes so we could try them all). The Chilli Yorkshire Rarebit was absolutely the stand out of the day, I could’ve eaten more slices of this. The Cauliflower and Potato Dosa was also very moreish, a rich spice with a yogurty dip to dip into. Yum! We also seriously enjoyed the Breakfast Biriyani with the Quails Egg. That saying though, there wasn’t anything we didn’t like in our boxes and both want to head back for dinner now!
We then moved onto “dessert” or the sweet brunch option as well as a couple of cocktails, Dr C enjoyed her Red Snapper and I had a Cascara Mimosa. Both perfect for brunch! The dessert was wonderful. We should’ve ordered 1 each to be honest! The French Toast with Ginger and Caramel Ice Cream was divine. The Apple and Cinnamon Samosa was spicy and warming, delicious. I wasn’t sure about the cold Mango Lassi Muesli at first, but actually really enjoyed it and I’d probably consider trying overnight oats now!
Whilst we didn’t have any coffee from Laynes during brunch, we were in a brunch cocktails mood, we headed there for a pick me up before I got my train home. I had a Yorkshire Tea and Salted Chocolate Cookie (OMG delicious!) and Dr C had a Flat White and Peanut Butter Brownie. We were finally full, I headed to my train and snoozed all the way back to Manchester…
Have you been to Bundobust or Laynes Espresso? Did you make it to Leeds Indie Food Fest this year? Let me know in the comments,
P.S. We paid for our brunch and caffeine pick me ups in full.
