Eastnor Castle Chilli Festival 2017

May 23, 2017

The other week me, Dr W and some friends headed to Eastnor Castle Chilli Festival. It was it’s sixth year this year and I can’t believe I’ve not been before!

What I loved about Eastnor Castle Chilli Festival is that it was held in the castle grounds and the price of your ticket included castle entrance, perfect for when it briefly rained. The festival itself was a mixture of entertainment, cooking demos, chilli product stalls and of course amazing food!

We wandered round checking out all the products on offer, mainly making a b-line for all of the condiments (our fridge now has a dedicated shelf to chilli sauces after the Chilli Festival – haha!) There were some amazingly hot sauces to wonderfully sweet chilli sauces. If you’re wandering round checking out the chilli sauces I highly recommend carrying some water on you for those extra hot moments. Dr W was very thankful for this after trying some Scorpion Chilli sauce!

We bought many sauces from Grim Reaper Foods. Their sauces are incredible, we got The Green Goblin (perfect for Tacos), The Maverick (really hot but great with chicken) and The Raven (Scorpion Chilli Sauce great with sausages or adding into chillies). At this point we’d worked up an appetite so we headed to join the lengthy queue for burgers from The Beefy Boys. We chose suitably spicy burgers, mine had an incredible jalapeno salsa on it, and was utterly divine.

We then wandered down to the main stage of the Chilli Festival to watch the Chilli Eating Contest. Basically ten crazy people eating increasing strength chillies. Ending up with the hottest on earth, the California Reaper. It was pretty bonkers but fun to watch. During this Dr W and I snacked on some Jalapeno Poppers, wonderfully spicy and cheesy – yum! We also shared a Chilli Dog from the Bath Pig Co, another cheesy and spicy affair. Chilli and cheese really do work together!

So yeah, we had a fantastic day at the Eastnor Castle Chilli Festival. I’m so glad our friends told us about the event. I already can’t wait for next years, by then we may have run out of chilli sauce (we bought loads)…. Have you been to a Chilli Festival before? Have you been to Eastnor Castle Chilli Festival? A festival dedicated to chilli? That sounds like something I would love. The sauces look gooood.

The sauces were incredible – we have a chilli sauce for every occasion/every heat level now… Oops!

This looks awesome! I must admit I’m not a big chilli person but the idea of the festival looks ace.

The food wasn’t all dedicated to chilli (but there were many mild sauces too), it was just quite a fun day out regardless I think 🙂

Sounds fun. I like that chilli-lantern, it’s so cute. I would like to attend next year, I should keep it in mind. x

Oh I love this post, as I love chilli, and if I could I’d have it with and on everything! There’s a chilli festival held up here in Cockermouth each year but I’ve yet to go, so I need to try and see it for myself at some point, but this one looks even better! Will definitely have to try out Grim Reaper Foods’ sauces, they sound so good and these places are always the best for discovering new sauces and different combinations. I love the giant chilli in the first photo too and the place it was held sounds lovely as well. The food in the bottom two photos looks so good too! – Tasha

Oooh that’s good to know – we often visit the Lakes and have friends near Cockermouth!
