Dinner at Shell Bay Restaurant Studland | Dorset

September 22, 2017

Our holiday had to finish with something wonderful didn’t it? Daddy Pond made it so by organising the most wonderful evening at Shell Bay Restaurant in Studland.

Boasting amazing views across to Poole and Brownsea Island as well as only offering up freshly caught fish, Shell Bay Restaurant is pretty special. We of course coincided our visit with sunset and we enjoyed champagne whilst the sun was setting.

Shell Bay Restaurant - Drinks

Shell Bay Restaurant - Crispy Squid

Starters

To start I picked the Salt and Pepper Squid. This was the best squid I have ever had. Proper melt in mouth. The seasoning was perfect too! I loved that it was served with soy sauce, it really did work and I would encourage you to try it this way too. I’m afraid I forgot to take a pic of Dr W’s, he opted for the Scallops and Peas. Being allowed to try some of his food I can definitely agree that it was pretty amazing also.

Shell Bay Restaurant - Cod Loin

Shell Bay Restaurant - Sea Bream

Mains

For mains I picked the Cod Loin with Parma Ham, Chorizo and Butterbeans. I got some veggies to go with as well. The cod was meaty and perfectly cooked. Flaking away beautifully. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the huge chunks of chorizo. It could’ve been a bit daintier, but it was tasty all the same.

Dr W picked the Sea Bream with Crab and Lentils. Utter envy here. This was incredible and something I would order next time if it was available. The whole dish worked, I was pleasantly surprised as I wasn’t sure about the lentils (hence me not ordering!) Dr W won on best main definitely!

Shell Bay Restaurant - Vanilla Cheesecake

Shell Bay Restaurant - Chocolate Brownie

Dessert

To finish I picked the Vanilla Cheesecake with Berry Sorbet. My my this was rich, but oh so worth it. The vanilla was strong and the berries complemented it perfectly. The almonds were a lovely touch too. The best thing, you could definitely tell it was freshly made.

Dr W picked the Chocolate Brownie with Salted Caramel Ice Cream. Another rich dessert, but also delicious. The blackberries added a wonderful fruitiness to the dish. Dr W would’ve picked the plate clean if he’d have had the chance!

Overall

I think you can probably tell by now. But yes our visit to Shell Bay Restaurant was incredible. The menu was small but not too small. They also cater to vegetarians, vegans and also for dietary requirements. If you’re not a fish fan it may not be the place for you but they did have meat options, all locally sourced as well. The dishes were also in season too. The staff were knowledgable about the produce and very friendly. So impressive! I’d definitely visit again.

Love the look of this place, both the view and the food! Your squid sounds perfectly cooked, and I love the combination of cod and chorizo, so I might have chosen exactly the same things as you!
