Spread the word – Bella Italia has gone pink for the summer! Running until 3rd September, Bella Italia is embracing La Notte Rosa – The Pink Festival. Pink touches abound in both the new festival menu and also in the décor in the restaurants. Over to Dr C…
I was invited down to a special La Notte Rosa launch event at Bella Italia in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens to sample some of the special menu additions for myself.
We kicked the evening off with the Watermelon Absolut Cooler and a Watermelon Virgin Cooler for my date who happened to be driving. I’m generally not very big on watermelon, but these were so refreshing and delicious… I might’ve ended up having more than a couple. Whilst we didn’t get to try them, there are a few more special La Notte Rosa cocktails that sounded delicious too. We both really liked the sound of the Strawberry Gin Mare Lemonade and the Strawberry Campari Spritz. Definitely ones to check out next time!
The whole evening had a great party atmosphere. We were brought round tasters of each of the dishes on the La Notte Rosa menu. We first tried some of the Antipasti Rosa. For the event were served on skewers. These were my idea of heaven. Delicious Capocollo salami, sun blushed tomatoes and drizzled in basil pesto. Perfect little bite sized morsels. We then had the Grilled Watermelon, exactly what it sounds like. This was topped with creamy goats cheese, fresh mint and drizzled with a balsamic glaze. I enjoyed this, but I think it could’ve packed a little more punch!
We then got to tuck into the mains. Trying the Pizza Rosa Coppa, an interesting and pretty pleasing pizza. A super thin base, topped with lashing of garlickly oil (maybe not one for an early date night!) More of that delicious Capocollo salami, buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and drizzled with pesto. A quick warning – if you’re expecting a traditional tomato sauce pizza you’ll be disappointed. If you’re keen to try something new, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Then we tried the Watermelon Rosa Salad. Simply a salad of watermelon, goats cheese, salami, lettuce and dressing. I actually really enjoyed this. It was tasty and fresh and reminded me of a salad I make. For me it would be perfect with the addition of a few black olives.
We finished the evening off with some gelato. Having been in Italy recently I have high expectations! We had the Rosa Gelato Sundae. Strawberry gelato, fresh strawberries, amaretti biscuits and strawberry coulis. It was pretty delicious, not quite as good as the gelato I’ve had recently, but still pretty delicious!
We had a great night and really enjoyed the party atmosphere, even indulging in a few silly selfies in the photobooth. We were both in luck as we won some great prizes from the charity raffle on the night, all adding to what was a great night. Lastly we got some really thoughtful goody bags as we were leaving, which included the mixers for the Watermelon Absolut Cooler and the Strawberry Gin Mare cocktails! I’m really looking forward to giving these a try out at home and continuing the La Notte Rosa celebrations.
