Today’s post is coverage of an event I am quite sad to have missed out on. But I’m glad Dr C could go in my place. Meat Lust are running an incredible BBQ experience in Manchester called Sauce and the City and Dr C got to check out the preview night!
Over to Dr C…
The event promises a night of Manchester’s coolest eating joints, on a BBQ bus, with dishes prepared at each place using Meat Lust’s amazing sauces. You read that right, a BBQ bus with food on board cooked by the wonderful guys at Beastro. There are also on board beers provided by BrewDog, Ticketybrew and Shindigger. However, as this was the VIP preview event there was an extra special surprise for us folks lucky enough to be invited along…. We’d be spending the evening in the company of Meat Lust celebrity ambassador Adam Richman of Man Vs Food fame!
The tour kicks off from B.EAT Street on Deansgate. We were welcomed onto the (bright pink double decker) bus and handed some Punk IPA from Brewdog. It was then that we got to see our plan for the evening, and it sounded epic! We set off towards our first destination, Northern Soul Grilled Cheese. Then we got our first taste of the onboard food, Nacho Beef. Incredibly delicious pulled beef nachos which went perfectly with the Punk IPA – a sign of all the excellent food that we were going to have over the night.
We pulled up to Northern Soul and everyone clambered out of the bus ready for grilled cheese awesomeness. Full disclosure – I already love Northern Soul, so I knew I as going to love this. We were treated to a Chicken Katsu Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Admittedly katsu sauce isn’t my favourite, but the Meat Lust sauce is fantastic and this sandwich was delicious. After a few photo opportunities and some filming with Adam, it was back to the bus for more. The tour continued with Ticketybrew Jasmine Green Tea beer and hotdog sliders with more of that delicious katsu sauce.
Next stop was Crazy Pedro’s for some pizza and cocktail action. We all got a giant slice of Chicken Katsu Pizza and I opted for the blood orange cocktail. The pizza as so good, but I have to admit that I was beginning to struggle by this point and only ate half of mine. After a few drinks the atmosphere on the bus had become a really fun laid back party environment – completely helped by Lyndon from Crazy Pedros bringing round a tray of tequila shots for us all! More onboard Beastro food, this time the Chinese Lamb Juan – I always forget how much I love lamb, and this dish only cemented that fact. The bus set off again, this time heading along to BrewDog – where thankfully we weren’t treated to food (I was so so full by this point), but an intro to their beer tasting – which as a big BrewDog fan, I had a lot of time for.
The next onboard offering was my highlight of the night – Bunny in the Buff. Rabbit, stuffed with black pudding wrapped in parma ham. Literally all of my favourite food in one, all washed down with some Shindigger beer. Pretty perfect by my standards! Our last foody stop of the evening was Sugar Rays, a relatively new contender on the Manchester food scene. They prepared some amazing looking gourmet hot dogs with the Meat Lust Ghost Pepper Chilli Sauce, and I can only say that they looked amazing, because I was far too stuffed at this point to manage a hot dog! In saying that I did have just enough space to try Beastro’s final dish of the evening – Ghost Peppa’d Pig. This was a deliciously spicy pork Bao bun which we all scoffed as the bus made its way back to B.EAT Street for the afterparty and some final pictures and chat with Adam – who I can honestly say is the sweetest guy and most down to earth celebrity I’ve ever met.
Sauce and the City will be running Thurs-Sun 20th-30th July, with tickets priced at £30 per person (+booking fee). It’s something I would definitely do again – it would make such a great night out with a group of friends. If you’re interested, book fast as Friday 21st July has already sold out! Thank you so much to Meat Lust for in the invite, Beastro for the cracking onboard food and all the restaurants involved. And as always, thank you to MissPond for allowing me to cover this event in her place.
P.S. This was an invite only preview of the Sauce and the City tour, Dr C did not pay for her experience. However, all words, photos and opinions are hers.
P.P.S. The tour starts at Great Northern Warehouse, 235 Deansgate, Manchester M3 4EN.
