Date Night at the Emirates Old Trafford Hilton Garden Inn | Manchester

March 1, 2018

Ms M was recently invited to the Hilton Garden Inn over at the Old Trafford cricket ground. She was invited to  try out their special Valentine’s Day menu in the Garden Bar & Grille, so used this as an excuse for date night with Mr C.

Over to Ms M… I’m not usually one for celebrating Valentine’s Day. But this one really was special and the Hilton Garden Inn was offering a wonderful menu at the Garden Bar & Grille. I just had to check out this special three course menu.

Starters

For starters, I had the chicken liver pâté with baked croute and homemade chutney. Mr C had the spinach and ricotta tortellini in white wine and tarragon sauce. Both starters were gorgeous. I’m a huge fan of pâté and this was particularly good, lovely and smooth. The tortellini was beautiful and the sauce was really tasty, packing in a lot of flavour.

Mains

For mains, Mr C opted for the braised pork belly with apple mash, charred leeks, roasted carrots and sage & cider gravy. I had the wild mushroom, asparagus and butternut squash risotto. The pork belly fell apart beautifully and tasted amazing, absolutely perfect. The risotto was also gorgeous – one I will be trying to recreate at home for sure!

Desserts

And to finish off, because you can’t say no to desserts on Valentine’s Day! I went for the lemon and lime tart with raspberry sorbet and Mr C went for the tiramisu cake. These were both great desserts, but the lemon and lime tart was particularly good – a dessert I’d definitely have again!

Overall

Over all we had a wonderful meal and all the dishes were presented really well. The service was very attentive and we didn’t feel over fussed on this special date night. However, whilst it was a great menu, it didn’t feel as special as other hotel restaurants for a day like Valentine’s Day. Maybe it’s just the location of the restaurant, as it felt like most people there were only eating there because of their hotel stay. Maybe it would be different at the weekend, but mid-week I would probably stick to the city centre if I wanted a meal with a more ‘date night’ like atmosphere. But the food was very good, so it may work better for a bigger group of friends celebrating something!

Have you checked out the Hilton Garden Inn? What do you think of what we tried? Let me know in the comments,

P.S. Ms M’s meal at the Garden Bar & Grille in Hilton Garden Inn was complimentary in return for an honest review. As ever all words, photos and opinions are her own.

Everything looks so delicious – but that pate needs more bread for my liking hehe!

What a lovely treat for Valentine’s Day. My husband and I love celebrating as often as we can, so, besides our anniversaries, having an extra day (V. day) is just fab. Those desserts look fantastic.

You know, I am not a fan of Valentines day dinners as I do think they are overpriced and if you love someone you can go for dinner anytime! But this food ohhh look delicious! xxx
