So the other evening Ms M was invited to Zouk’s Spring Showcase evening. Having never been before, she was very excited to see what Zouk had to offer – and she was not disappointed!
Over to Ms M for the rest of this post… On arrival to Zouk we were greeted with a drink and appetisers – delish!
The cocktails on offer were the Kharbooza (melon liquor, blue curacao, vodka and ginger blend), Spring Fling (tequila with orange juice and prosecco), Elderflower Frost (gin, cucumber and lime with elderflower and soda) and the Mango Crush (mango, vodka lime and sugar syrup). Despite being a huge gin fan, my favourite was the Mango Crush. Definitely a great shout for anyone who loves really fruity cocktails! All of them were lovely and went really well with our food – perfect Spring/Summer drinks.
To start, we were offered the Murgh Tikka Hariyali, Kashmiri Lamb Kebabs, Channa Masala and Vegetables Pakoras. My favourite was the Murgh Tikka Hariyali. Now, I’m not great with spice and normally I stick to the mild end of the menu. However, these were gorgeous; really nicely spicy, hotter than I would have chosen for myself but I will definitely be going back for more of their spicier dishes! The Lamb Kebabs were also lovely, initially, not very spicy at all but if you wait a couple of seconds, it’s definitely there! Both of the vegan options were also gorgeous. We were told that the Channa Masala was spicier than the Pakoras, but it was definitely the other way round.
For mains, we were served the Qasuri Methi Murgh, Lamb with Sweet Potato and Almonds, Aloo Gobi and Bindi Dupiaza. The Lamb was amazing – not massively spicy but was almost creamy (without there being any cream in the dish) due to the way the sweet potato had been cooked. I’m not normally a fan of lamb, but I would order this again. The Aloo Gobi is a Punjabi-style dish of potatoes and cauliflower – amazing! Though, my favourite dish of the evening was the Qasuri Methi Murgh. The chicken melted in your mouth and had a lovely soft kick of heat on your tongue!
Finally, for dessert, we were given a platter of 3. The Mumbai Mess, Chocolate Brownie and Cinnamon Doughnuts with chocolate. The Mumbai Mess was a deconstructed raspberry cheesecake, unfortunately, it wasn’t very biscuity, mostly just very creamy cheesecake, but did taste good. The Cinnamon Doughnuts looked great, tasted great, but would have been improved if they had been hot. And the Chocolate Brownie, well it’s always a good option! Perfect for me, I prefer brownies to be fairly gooey and these definitely did the trick!
All in all, a really great evening with a wonderful selection of food. And to top if off, we each got a goody bag with a Manchester restaurant inspired cook book and some ingredients to make the recipe Zouk have in it – I best get cooking!
