Checking out Gousto Food Boxes | Review

May 9, 2017

Sometimes it’s difficult to meal plan or find time for a weekly shop. Dr W and I both have had ridiculous times at work lately, so when Gousto sent us a food box with two meals to try out we were quite excited.

Gousto aim to deliver a food box that encourages you to cook something different, contains fresh food, is pre-measured for ease and helps reduce food waste. I picked a box that had 2 meals for 2 people (£27.49) which had 2 wonderfully comforting recipes in it. Purely because we were going to be having a mad week and I thought these recipes would cheer us up!

I jumped at this recipe when I was on the recipe selector. It looked meaty, cheesy and filling. A perfect mid-week treat and a really easy recipe to follow. The only thing we did differently this recipe was to be lazy with the chips. We had some in the freezer, so we used them. Sorry Gousto! It had been a long day and I didn’t fancy peeling tatties…. Other than this, the burger was dead easy to make and the Rarebit Sauce, I’m making that again. Mustardy, cheesy, spicy and wonderful!

This was picked so we could have a post-hike hearty dinner on a Sunday. Some people get scared at a white sauce, but the recipe card talks you through it and the wholegrain mustard gives it a great kick. With sweet leeks, tasty mash and al dente veg was a wonderful combination. Dr W was suitably filled afterwards. A bit more complex than the burger, it’s still wonderful simple to follow the recipe. We used the extra potatoes from the burgers to give us a bit more mash… No waste here!

From having a chat to see what Dr W thinks as well as me. Overall we think the Gousto box is something great for those that don’t have the time to meal plan at all. It takes all the stress away, but if you like to cook (even quick meals) and not follow the recipe bang to the letter then maybe it’s not for you. It was great not to have to think about things, but I know what we’re like in our house, I meal plan so I can swap meals around or change what I was going to make and I’m not sure the Gousto Box would work long term in our house. For a treat now and again though I’d definitely try it again.

If you fancy checking out a Gousto Box, I can offer you £20 discount on your 1st and 2nd Gousto orders, on any sized box. The discount code for this is TORNADO, just apply it at the checkout when you order!

I did exactly the same as you! 🙂 Well, different meals, but i’ve tried both Hello Fresh and Gousto and I really like the concept of them both, the tastiness of the food and the fact there’s very minimal wastage!! Alice xxx

I’ve tried a similar company before; Hello Fresh. I think the concept is great for busy households. I love your photos of the food, they’re making me pretty hungry.

I tried Gousto earlier this year and really enjoyed it although I’m someone who rarely cooks for myself – I found that the recipes did take a little longer than stated but probably more down to my not-so-great skills then the recipes themselves! x

I always find recipes are a real estimate time wise!
