When I found out Wayland’s Yard were opening in Brum I was very excited! Right by Snowhill station it’s going to be perfect for when I venture into the city at the weekend.
Regular readers will already know that I fly the flag of Wayland’s Yard in Worcester regularly. Brunch, lunch, sweet treats and of course caffeine hit, Wayland’s Yard is the place for you! So when I was invited down by the guys to check out the Birmingham branch I wasn’t going to say no. So just after all the snow I rocked up in the city centre after work and got ready for Brunch for Dinner with other wonderful Brum Bloggers. That evening we were to sample mini versions of the menu and readers, brunch for dinner may well just be my new thing!
So we started out with coffee, a wonderful flat white made using Rocko Mountain coffee. I really enjoyed this, as some people may know I’ve recently been semi converted to coffee. To accompany this we had the Eggy Crumpets. To put it simply this is eggy bread but made with crumpets. I’m not usually a crumpets fan but like this, gimme more! Slices of chilli, sweet chilli jam and Sriracha make this dish incredibly moreish! Spoiler alert – I love this dish already but I was happy to have again. I’m glad it’s made the menu after being on the specials for so long at Worcester.
Next up we had the Breakfast Bap, think McMuffin but a million times better. Halloumi, sausage patty (flavoured with home grown herbs), thick bacon, avocado and chilli jam. Oh man. If you’re hungover on your visit to Wayland’s Yard, this is the one for you. With this we had the Tumeric Latte, which unfortunately was not for me. I’m not fully converted into the weird latte life so I gave this to Laura…
Last of our savouries took us to Aussie Eggs. Sourdough bread, avocado hummus (yup that’s a thing and yes, it WORKS!) with perfectly poached eggs and PINK hollandaise. The one time I have enjoyed beetroot was when it was used to make a pink sauce that tastes nothing like beetroot! With this course we had an interesting flavoured tea from Bluebird Tea Co. The Blue Raspberry Tea changes colour when lemon is added and isn’t overly sweet like some flavoured teas. Not one I’d normally choose but would try again for sure.
We finished our evening with cold brew coffee, homemade strawberry lemonade and delicious brownies. If you’re not looking for breakfast food, I definitely suggest heading to Wayland’s Yard for cake. I can also highly recommend the mint choc chip rocky road. It’s a favourite of mine!
So have you checked out Wayland’s Yard yet? What would you order? Let me know in the comments,
MISSPOND X

P.S. My invitation to Brunch for Dinner was from East Village PR, and Sam and Polly at Wayland’s Yard. It may have been a complimentary dinner, but I genuinely fly the Wayland’s Yard flag all the time. Go check them out, they’re amazing.
P.P.S. Wayland’s Yard’s new location is 42 Bull St, Birmingham B4 6AF.
