Oh readers it’s that time of the year again isn’t it! Time for us all to get festive, get merry and enjoy time with family and friends. I can’t think of a better way to do it than with a Christmas Afternoon Tea.
Disclosure – I was invited to the launch where I got to sample the Christmas afternoon tea. All words, photos and opinions are my own.
I took my sister along with me to Three Church Road to experience the delightful Christmas Afternoon Tea (£22.50pp). It was wonderful to have some time sitting and chatting with my sister, whilst sat in the opulent setting of the cosy restaurant. Absolute interior goals!
First up as with any afternoon tea, festive or otherwise, was the savoury layer. Due to my weird cucumber allergy I decided to double up on the Christmas sandwich, Cheese and and Cranberry. As ever there’s always the issue that sarnies prepped a while ago with the crusts off can have dry edges. Sadly this was the case with this afternoon tea, but the sandwiches were tasty all the same. The Ham and Mustard lacked the mustard kick I expected, but for my sister this was ok. The Christmas Cheese and Cranberry was the winner for me. There was also one arancini, which they seemed to forget there were two of us! It was ok, just not that special.
Next up the special cakes tier, which was packed with festive themed treats. For me the Chocolate Orange Macaron was a lovely addition, it was like eating a very opulent Terry’s. I also really enjoyed the Mulled Wine Jelly (veggie alternative available – just ask). This felt very Christmassy! The Ginger Biscuit was lovely but it didn’t need the silver spray all over it, it just made it tough. But it was great dunked in a brew (probably not the best etiquette…). I didn’t eat the Coconut Truffle as coconut doesn’t do it for me, but my sister seemed to enjoy the extra one!
Last up, we had scones! Lovely and warm scones, that were massive. At this point I was almost bursting. But I gave the Cranberry and Orange Scones a go as these are the Christmas addition to the Afternoon Tea at Three Church Road. Sadly the chef had forgotten to make and had rushed, which you could tell from the slight over working of the dough and the forgotten egg wash. Compared to the look of the plain scones, I think now it’s launched I imagine they’ve met the same standard. Not to say that the scone I had wasn’t good, it just wasn’t as good as it could’ve been.
Overall it was a lovely Christmas Afternoon Tea. It just needed a couple of things ironing out, which hopefully has happened now the afternoon tea has officially launched (1st Dec). If you’re after something relaxed to celebrate Christmas I’d give it a go. Although the traditionalist in me wonders if the addition of a mince pie would be welcome..!
Have you had a Christmas Afternoon Tea before? Would you book in for one in the run up to Christmas? Let me know in the comments,
