Trying The Sunday Best at Pieminister | Birmingham

October 18, 2018

One gloriously autumnal Sunday Dr W and I headed into Brum for a shopping trip. We’re still trying to sort things for the house out. A morning of shopping got us super peckish and we headed to Pieminister for Sunday lunch.

But not just any lunch. We were at Pieminister to check out their brand new Sunday lunch offering, The Sunday Best. Already huge fans of Pieminister, our old quiz night was at a pub that served their pies, we were looking forward to our lunch.

We arrived at the start of lunch so it wasn’t very busy. However, it picked up as our meal went on. The place has a homely industrial vibe, and the booths are surprisingly comfortable even though this picture may not make them look very comfortable. We started off ordering drinks, both sticking to soft drinks. We then perused the menu and picked our pies.

The Pieminister Sunday Best is basically your choice of pie from the menu with all the trimmings of a Sunday roast. For £9.95 you get crackling, a pig in blanket, roast potatoes, carrot and root mash, a Yorkshire and your pie sits on top of mashed potato. You also get gravy and you can of course pick up any sides. For a quid more you can get unlimited gravy as well. We are meat eaters so had the meaty options, but veggies and vegans there are options for you as well!

For mine I went with my favourite pie, the Deerstalker, which is a venison pie. It’s my fave so I have no quibbles with it. Now, I really like the concept of the Sunday Best. It’s great value for money and it was a tasty meal. My crackling was perfect, I had no issue with the accompaniments, the Yorkshire was good too. The only issue for me was the gravy, it was just a bit lacking (I fed this back). I think I’m just used to Dr W’s red wine gravy he makes for roast dinners. It could’ve done with something similar, I’m glad I had ordered the mushy peas alongside. Who knows they may take on my suggestion for the gravy?!

But overall it’s great value for money and a great idea for a Sunday lunch if you like pie. So let me know in the comments if you’re going to give it a go, or if you’re a fan of Pieminister.

Pie plus a Yorkshire Pud sounds like the best combo!

We on the Pierate Ship very much love the Pieminister pie range and the Sunday Best is a logical next step in providing the pie-fect pie meal with all the trimmings! Glad you enjoyed it too!

I love the sound of the Sunday Best! I have eaten at Pieminster in Cardiff and Bristol and really enjoy the pies there. The chicken one is my favourite.

Oooh I love the chicken and mushroom one as well. Sometimes only a pie will do!

Looks like the perfect venue for a Sunday lunch and it’s a very convenient location in Brum if I am popping in on the bus. Love the sound of the Deerstalker pie.
