Hello hello! I am back again with another edition of my 5 Happy Things. As usual food is the top of my list, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that!
It’s been another few busy weeks. The house completion date got given to us (it’s so soon now). We’ve had some birthdays to celebrate and also enjoyed some time cooking at home just the two of us. So what are my 5 Happy Things…
#1 – Custard Cream Cake
For my Bake club round at work I baked a Custard Cream Cake. Turning a normal vanilla sponge cake into a custard one with 2 tbsp of custard powder and a splash of milk into the mixture. I then added custard powder and vanilla bean paste into buttercream icing sugar for that extra custard kick. It went down such a treat and was perfect with a hot cuppa!
#2 – Cheeky Five Guys with my Sister
My sister and I decided to catch up the other week over a Five Guys and a couple of cocktails after. The event we went too was a little lack lustre, so we ended up going for fizz. But we had fun all the same! She has just put an offer in on a house, so is starting her house buying journey as mine comes to an end. We’re catching up over dinner again this week and I cannot wait to see her!
#3 – (Ok not foodie, but fun with friends) but Battle Archery and Knife Throwing Fun
For a very good friend of mine’s birthday we went to Battle Archery, just between Bristol and Bath. We had a full day of activities planned. Although, I just stuck to the knife throwing fun in the afternoon (I figured adding archery in too would hurt my poor elbows!) It was the muddiest day ever, but so much fun. I’m also surprisingly good at knife throwing despite my wonky elbows. So watch out!
#4 – Rick Stein Curries (Yes Again, I Know We’re Obsessed)
Back in my list again, yes, Rick Stein’s India is the best recipe book I have ever been given. Hearty, warming (not ridiculously spicy) meals that soothe the soul. My most favourite on the list of recent makes is the Chicken Passanda. I also made the Chicken Chettinhad, but Dr W wasn’t as much of a fan of this as I was. I’m hoping to get to the butchers this weekend so I can give the Mutton Curry a go. If you haven’t tried any of his curry recipes out, I really recommend you do.
#5 – Lazy Sunday’s with Dr W
On Sunday Dr W and I took an afternoon with each other. The rain eased off and we went for a walk. It’s not really surprising we ended up in Wayland’s Yard. Although what is surprising is I ordered a coffee this time. I’m still really only into lattes, but I do appreciate a well crafted cup of coffee. I’m hoping I can persuade Dr W to go for full on brunch this Sunday at Wayland’s. I need myself some Eggy Crumpets all over again!
So what’s been making you happy lately? Let me know in the comments,
