Hi readers! Long time no speak! I’m really sorry for the radio silence, it’s been a busy couple of weeks. Filled with some pretty awesome times and also some pretty shitty times. To try and remain positive I’m going to share a few of the best things that have happened over the last couple of weeks.
Sorry I’ve been pretty quiet because a) blog server issues b) our Switzerland holiday c) feeling a bit sad about some crappy news. So lets not dwell on that, here are some happy moments from the last couple of weeks.
#1 – Watching two of our favourite people get married in the Lake District
Dr W’s best mate asked him to be a groomsman at his wedding, which was very exciting. We headed up north for the wedding. For which the wedding breakfast and reception were held at the wonderful Belmount Hall just outside of Hawkshead. It was a beautiful day, a little chilly, but the wood fire in the hall kept us lovely and warm. We danced the night away and had a really epic time!
#2 – Getting out and hiking again
We hadn’t been hiking since our rainy Scotland holiday over the New Year. Moving house and lots of plans have stopped us from getting out at the weekends. Staying in the Lakes for a week after the wedding meant we could get out and hiking. We also finally completed the Kentmere Horseshoe at long last! I forgot how much I miss hiking, even in the rain. It was nice to get out on the hills then hit the pub for drinks and pub grub after!
#3 – Flying for the first time since 2015!
After the faff of sorting out a passport for the whole mortgage fiasco (long story) I had to book a holiday abroad. Cue our week in Switzerland. Oh my it was such an epic adventure; I will be sharing more blog posts on this trip soon. The highlight of the whole holiday was my first trip to the Jungfrau Region, which even has me contemplating my first marathon (yes I’m crazy I know!)
#4 – Fondue
We couldn’t not have fondue whilst in Switzerland could we?! Our last night saw us head to Mike’s Weinloft, a pop up wine bar in Lenzburg for fondue. It was such a lovely evening; if you’re nearby I really recommend heading there. The wine selection is pretty incredible, I urge you if you can to try local Swiss wine. Each Canton tends to have it’s own wines/wine producers, but it’s a lot smaller in production that other countries, so tends not to be exported. So when you’re over there, pick the Swiss wines on the menu. They also tend to be cheaper than the imported French, Italian, etc. wines.
#5 – Chocolate Factory Fun
When we were in Switzerland we were staying at our friends in Lenzburg. Turns out they have a chocolate factory super close to them. If you get a chance I recommend the Chocolat Frey factory tour. It was a really interesting story of chocolate making, but also UNLIMITED chocolate at the end of the tour (on a sushi style conveyor belt). I may have felt a bit sick on the journey back to our friend’s house afterwards! Ooops!
Overall, we’ve had some good times recently despite receiving some sad news whilst on holiday. But rather excitingly I’ve just booked my next holiday away, we’re off to Prague in November with some friends. I’ve already started scoping out foodie places for the trip – if you have recommendations send them my way! So what’s been making you happy lately? Let me know in the comments,
