#66 Rituximab

March 21, 2014

IMG_2969A while ago I mentioned that arthritis sucked, but how I was lucky enough to start a fancy new treatment after failing many other options over the past few years…

Anyway, it’s that time again. I’m hooked up and being filled with the special stuff (rituximab). This is the way it works… 2 infusions of rituximab, 14 days apart and a 3 month wait before you even know if it’s worked. Then you wait until it wears off (6 months, a year, 2 years later…) until you get more. A year later and I need more! But it worked last time and I really hope it’ll work again. So everyone cross your fingers, toes and limbs crossed that I’m lucky again!

I should also mention that joint pain isn’t the only thing associated with arthritis. Pain and working through the pain to lead a ‘normal’ life can cause horrendous fatigue for us arthritis patients. I was recently asked by Arthur’s Place to write about my experience of tiredness, if you want to read it click here.

See you soon,

I was 23 when I was finally diagnosed with RA, so probably had it from 21. There was never any info that was relevant to me. It is very different now.

There was bugger all relevant info for me when I was diagnosed 8 years ago at 18! New patients of a younger age are lucky now with the wealth of info and the rise of the internet. I’ve been lucky to help contribute to some information sources available now 🙂
