Making Your House Your Own with Cute Finishing Touches

April 26, 2018

Ok so this post becomes mildly irrelevant by tomorrow (please cross fingers and toes) as we complete on our lovely house. But having lived in rented accommodation with fixed decor clauses we’ve had to look at making our own touches without harming any walls.

If you’re in rented accommodation you probably share this issue. To be honest half of me is happy that I’m not having to fill holes as we move out this weekend. But for two years I lived in a flat that didn’t feel like mine aside from the cute touches I made. Although I must admit I super look forward to making the house our own when we have it.

We picked vibrant bed covers for our magnolia room but I went with some cute pillow cases, in fact I have a few now, that I like to switch up for the top pillows. These Big Spoon and Little Spoon pillows are from the Old English Print Co* and add a level of fun to our otherwise boring room in our house!

I’ve also got a big thing for fun mugs. This one* being a particular favourite of mine. I work long days and my commute adds extra hours to it, so I’m usually first to get into PJs when I get in! So whilst I can’t have a jazzy kitchen at least I can have fun kitchenware.

My finishing touches also extend to my own belongings. I’ve started becoming a bit of a pin badge collector. I love this Don’t Worry Bee Happy* pin is so apt. I hate commuting but seeing it when I put my bag on my lap cheers me up!

What do you do to add finishing touches to your house or rented accomodation? Are you a pin badge fan? Let me know in the comments,

Really love the pilows. Must be so frustrating to not be able to make any changes to the walls and floorings at all. Hope everything went well with your house move

It did go well, thanks 🙂 It was frustrating, I’m glad we live in our own home now.

I know this feeling all too well! We’ve rented for over 3 years now and nothing is our own. I try to put as many personal bits and bobs around as I can; pictures, flowers, trinkets, to make everything feel a bit more like us, but the furniture and decor is nothing we would choose ourselves! I can’t wait to fill a house with things that we actually love!

Good luck with the big move!

Thank you 🙂 We were lucky we rented unfurnished so we could have a bit more of our own spin on things!

First of all – we have the same Adventure Time pjs!
I will have absolutely everything crossed tomorrow and send buckets of good vibez your way for sorting the house out. I’m still in rented accommodation so these tips are certainly handy for me. Absolutely love the bedding, I find that new bedding always makes my room feel much more cosy :).

Congratulations on buying your own home. Its a great feeling that first morning you’re in the new place, probably surrounded by boxes, make yourself a big mug of tea and just walk around saying/thinking…”I can’t believe this is ours!”

Thank you 🙂 I definitely went through that feeling, still feels odd walking around our house!

Congratulations on the house move! You lucky thing you – I’ve always rented and probably will forever. Still, we’re lucky in that we can treat our rented accomodation as our own.
