Tucked away across a courtyard of an unsuspecting building complex is Anonymous Bar. It might take you a moment to find, as it does for many of those seeking it’s wonderful drinks. Including my friends and I, but when we found it, we knew we were going to have a good night.
I booked our table (booking is essential on a Friday or Saturday) after a conversation with Dr C about it. She knows I like my cocktails, as do the friends Dr W and I went to Prague with. Little did I know how much we were going to enjoy our evening at Anonymous Bar.
The bar is quite small and table service only. This is definitely the reason to book, as the queue stretched out of the door several times during the evening. And the time we spent there (9pm til almost midnight) there was always someone at the door waiting. I must admit I felt rather smug having booked this adventure pre-holiday.
So you probably all want to know about the main event, the cocktails. I don’t want to ruin the entire show for you, but spoiler alert the cocktails are amazing. I’m going through a sours phase at the moment, so a lot of my cocktails involved gaining a moustache from the foam. The stand out were definitely the Red Bird (above left) and the Goodie (last picture). Mainly because the Goodie came with toasted marshmallows – yum!
The one thing that brings everyone to Anonymous Bar is the secret cocktail menu. Of which there are a couple. According to social media another new one was released on 5th November, as part of their anniversary celebrations. The cocktails on the hidden menus are definitely worth a try, but you’ll have to work out for yourself how to get hold of these hidden menus.
Anonymous Bar was the perfect evening out, the music was the right level (I’m old and like to hear my friends) and it was really chilled. The theatrics of some of the fiery cocktails are great fun to watch – order the Hot Fawkes cocktail. If you get a chance sit near the bar, it’s great watching them make these cocktails with a lot of love and attention. And if cocktails aren’t for you, they have plenty of gins and other spirits. Just don’t expect a mega beer selection, it is not that kind of place.
Have you been to a bar like Anonymous Bar before? Will you be adding it to your to visit list? Let me know in the comments,
