Like many last year we didn’t really get away last summer. Thankfully this summer we felt we were in a place where we could get away when things allowed. Staying with friends for a few days in Yorkshire, followed by a few days in Manchester in a nice hotel.
I appreciate we are far from normal, but I wanted to share some posts about getting away. For the first time since our Scotland holiday last March (yes we returned straight into lockdown) we managed to get away and it’s exciting. The first few nights of our holiday were spent in Yorkshire where we visited Saltaire and some good friends of ours.
No visit to the area would be complete without a visit to the Saltaire Brewery. We booked ahead (I’m glad we did) for a space in their large outdoor space. We spent the whole afternoon reapplying sunscreen, drinking beer (the South Island NZ Pale was delicious) and had a great time catching up with our friends. Now we did have dinner plans so didn’t have anything whilst we were there, but they have pop ups doing food outside. The pizza they had on offer when we were there looked epic.
Nordish is somewhere that’s been on my to visit list for a long time. Our friends came to visit a while back and brough buns with them and oh my, I knew I had to get them again. The team are incredibly talented and make sourdough bread, buns and pastries using local, organic stoneground flour. We bought sourdough for our brekkies, making delicious avo on toast with it. But I also became ‘mildly’ obsessed with their Rhubarb and Rosemary brioche breakfast buns. We definitely didn’t visit twice during our visit… no.
More Pizza Oven Antics
The friends we stayed with introduced us to the Ooni and since the Pond family has purchased one. As ever we used this one day pizza dough recipe and had great fun making. It can be a bit of a quick quick quick moment when you’re cooking, but it’s also so much fun! For Daddy Pond’s birthday we purchased the Ooni carrier, so we can take the pizza oven on holiday later this year, which is super exciting!
Sprained Ankle Y3P
So before we went away I did something stupid involving falling in a rabbit hole and sprained my ankle quite spectacularly. This kinda put a stop to any hiking plans for our time in Yorkshire. After leaving our friends house we had some time before our check in at our Manchester hotel so we decided to drive to the Ribblehead Valley. Annoyingly it was an ace day – sunny with a breeze – I was jealous of everyone hiking! As the views were so good we could see all 3 of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks where we parked up, which made up for it. Hopefully on out next visit I’ll be hiking it.
So there you have a it, a lovely few days in Yorkshire. Next up will be a little post about our few days in Manchester. Have you managed to escape recently? Let me know in the comments,
P.S. When summer’s over, why not try my amazing Saltaire Brewery Triple Choc Stew.
