Now you all know how much I love gin. Well my regular guest blogger M is also a huge fan. So the other week I sent her along to try out the Manchester Three Rivers Gin Experience.
Disclosure – Ms M was invited along to a press preview of the gin experience. Over to her…
Now readers, I’ll let you into a secret… I went to the Manchester Three Rivers Gin Experience when they first started running it. FYI it was awesome. So I was really excited to see their new, larger Gin School. Which did you know, has been voted the Best Rated UK Attraction by Trip Advisor and Premier Inn in 2018!
The Gin Experience starts with a G&T (of course), followed by a short video all about how Manchester Three Rivers Gin came to be. Then we were invited to go downstairs to see Angel (the still that makes all their gin). This called for another G&T and we found out a bit more about the distilling process. Then we moved on to the important bit of the night, GIN SCHOOL!
Accompanied by another G&T – FYI you’re never short of a drink at gin school so leave the car at home! We were first shown all the different botanicals we could use in our gins. This included a few more daring ideas (but you’ll have to go to find out for yourself what they are!) We were then guided on which botanicals would work well together (and how much of each to use) and set loose to choose our own.
Usually I’d opt for more citrusy flavours but this time I decided to go more herbal – definitely a good choice. Now have a very lovely bottle of gin using oats, rosemary, thyme and hazelnut. Perfect for autumn! While you create your recipe you’re asked to record the amounts of each botanical. Your recipe is snazzily stored by the Three Rivers Team in case you want to have another bottle made in the future. How exciting is that?!
All in all, a really fantastic way to spend 3 hours! For £95 I’d highly recommend going and making a bottle of gin for your Christmas Party this year. Or if gin isn’t your thing you can buy your gin-loving friends and family vouchers to go and make their own gin!
Have you tried Manchester Three Rivers Gin? Would you like to go to Gin School? Let me know in the comments,
P.S. Ms M was invited down to make gin, enjoy the experience and generally get merry. All words, photos and opinions are her own.
