I blame Charlie and her constant whispers of this place that led me to Mr W and I’s latest pay day Date Night location. Beef and Pudding is Manchester’s new place for a proper British food fix. Given that the long standing Tom’s Chop House was always my pick for this kind of food in the past, it may have just been taken over by a new and rather fabulous contender.
We started with the Costal Plank. This is where I could’ve stopped, pass me another one and that’d been starter and main done! Everything on the plank was to die for, although I was hoping the gun powder smoked salmon would be a little spicier. Mr W and I both agreed that the potted shrimp cake was our favourite but the mini beer-battered fish and mushy peas came a close second.
Next stop was our mains. Mr W went for the Beefham Tower Burger. He was warned about his pipette of hot sauce and too right, bloody hell it was hot! He loved it though and finished off the entire pipette. NB. A pipette inserted into a burger, way to appeal to two scientists at dinner!
I picked ‘The Pudding’ for my main. A key dish for the restaurant, it had to be done. The beef and venison were gorgeous and melted wonderfully in my mouth. The pastry was delicious but so heavy! Alas I could not finish the whole thing, but I made a bloody good attempt.
Both full, happy and tiddly on our Shiraz we gave dessert a miss. But next time Bakewell Pie, I’m coming to get ya! Thank you Beef and Pudding for making date night dining a little more interesting, we will be back.
