At the weekend we had a house warming BBQ with friends. As part of the BBQ I set up my Mega Burger Bar. For vegans, veggies and meat eaters we set up a station for all the things you’d like in a burger!
The Mega Burger Bar had our epic sauces from Grim Reaper Foods that we got at the Eastnor Chilli Festival. As well as sauces from Red’s True BBQ and Meat Lust. We also supplied various other burger accompaniments – jalapeños, gherkins, cheese, my famous balsamic onions (cook sliced onions low and slow for an hour or so with a hefty drizzle of balsamic vinegar) and of course ketchup.
For the BBQ we had a dual set up, our usual gas affair and then a charcoal grill using Cherrywood Charcoal from The Oxford Charcoal Company*. Once we were all set up we got grilling. The reason for using the Oxford Charcoal is that the cherrywood imparts flavour on the food. Now the cherry is really good with game but also amazing for veggie kebabs and adding extra flavour to veggie foods. It’s also a charcoal that doesn’t need any chemical additives, they use sustainably-sourced, single species British trees, ranging from birch to apple.
It was rather an epic afternoon, with some incredible burgers and plenty of hot sauce and cheese for me. The Mega Burger Bar is a must for any big BBQ, it means everyone can choose what they want on their food and it’s relatively little faff to set up. It may have been early but it was the perfect celebration for National Burger Day this week (23rd August) and also, summer’s not over yet!
Are you a burger fan? Would you set up a Mega Burger Bar for National Burger Day? Have you tried natural charcoal before? Let me know in the comments,
P.S. * I was sent the Oxford Charcoal Company for review. As ever all photos, words and opinions are my own.
