The Magic of Mackmyra with The Summerton Club

November 30, 2018

Do you have that one person that you’re not quite sure what to get for Christmas? Or maybe that person that has everything? If so, why not try something special this year? Like a subscription to The Summerton Club.

Disclosure – I was sent a bottle from The Summerton Club to create this post.

The Summerton Club is an exclusive subscription club for lovers of fine spirits. Every subscription box will contain a curated bottle of at least 50cl of spirit. You can expect to experience some of the world’s most sumptuous aged drinks including, but not limited to: Armagnac, Brandy, Bourbon, Calvados, Cognac, Eau de Vie, Grappa, Rum, Whiskey and Whisky. Take a look at their Bottles of the Month to see what they have sent to members previously.

Summerton Club Box of Mackmyra Gruvguld

I was sent October’s spirit of the month. It was a wonderful rare whisky, the Mackmyra Gruvguld. This is a Swedish Single Malt that is not available to buy in the UK. Mackmyra was a dream brought to life by eight friends who met in a ski cabin in Sweden. They regularly shared bottles of their favourite whisky. This past-time led to them opening the first distillery in Sweden.

Gruvguld means ‘gold from the mine’ and is reflected by the golden colour of the drink. It has been aged in a variety of small casks. Including olorosso, bourbon, sherry and Swedish oak. Ageing is carried out 50 metres below ground in the Bodas mine. I will point out that Mackymyra is not age marked like a traditional Scottish whisky. When tasting the Gruvguld is very fruity on the nose. But smooth and delicate on the palate with notes of spice and dark chocolate. It worked well slightly cooler for me. I used whisky stones to cool mine as I prefer not to use ice.

If you’re interested in buying the spirit lover in your family something interesting this Christmas. The Summerton Club membership costs £50 per delivery. This includes all postage and packing. Deliveries can be monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly. If you quote Pond5 at the checkout, you will get £5 off of our subscription (equivalent to 10% off the first month). My code is valid until 28th February 2019. If you’re not looking for a gift, but something special to drink with family on Christmas day you will need to order by Dec 4th to receive your bottle.

Have you tried a subscription box like this before? Are you a fan of spirits like Whisky? Let me know in the comments,

I’m a big fan of edible and drinkable gifts – especially when they’re someone’s favourites. I think it is extra special that they offer something different to your run of the mill “usuals”.

I think if someone has a tipple of choice, a loveely subscription of it is always a great idea. It’s the gift that continues to keep giving long after Christmas 😉

Really agree as someone who loves a bottle of gin for Christmas even though she has loads on her shelf already! Haha!

I love that they offer the less usual types of spirit like Grappa and Calvados. A really unusual Christmas gift idea as there are loads more spirits to explore than gin, vodka and whiskey!

That’s definitely a big bonus! I love that type spirits aren’t widely available in the uk either 🙂
