Ok so a big reason for not blogging has been my lack of venturing much further than a few places when Omicron made things a bit wonky. Being a bit more vulnerable does make me nervous. But recently I’ve been taking some tentative steps to re-explore Worcester and most of all find new places to eat!
I’ve shared a list below of my recent discoveries that I’ve started visiting more regularly. I still have some old faves though. Don’t forget The Old Rectifying House and Wayland’s Yard are still two of my most recommended places to go in Worcester. But today’s post is to shout about some others.
A frequent visiting place of mine, although not through January as The Commandery closes for maintenance and the cafe shuts too. But don’t worry it’s back open now!! Epic cookie pies, brilliant blondies and tasty toasties greet you at Commandery Coffee. There’s also offerings for vegans too so don’t worry. My usual order is the toastie of the week, a brew and a slice of cake. I also quite like a post-Parkrun cake if I’ve been to the Parkrun in town instead of my local one. An absolute must visit with great outside space too if you’re still a bit nervous.
My newest find in Worcester and an absolute belter! A Caribbean themed bar with delicious food offerings too. It started with cocktails one Thursday at Tortugas, which we really enjoyed, which led to booking a meal a couple of weeks later with friends. The Jerk Pork Belly was quite the dish and Dr W would recommend the Goat Curry. We will definitely be back again, especially for those cocktails!
Above Hoplord sits this great little space selling pizza by the slice, Pizza Freakz. Super thin crust pizzas, excellent topping choices and some great dips will welcome you. As well beer offerings upstairs, you can also take beer upstairs from the Hoplord taproom below. We’ve been a couple of times now and I couldn’t recommend it more. On our most recent visit we had an amazing 5 cheese pizza (oh yeah) and my staple BBQ Chicken was on the menu too. Already looking forward to our next visit!
Full disclosure, I only discovered this place thanks to a competition I won last year. But oh my I’m so glad I did discover The Steamhouse. The bagels take me right back to life in NYC (bagels were a staple when on a student budget whilst travelling). There’s an epic breakfast menu, epic lunch options, veggie and vegan too. The other big draw is the incredible donuts on offer too. It’s become an absolute favourite of mine and I frequently pick up donuts to take home.
The Meeting Place Cafe
Nestled on Friar Street in Worcester, The Meeting Place is a cafe with excellent brunch and lunch choices during the day. However, the secret to this place is the supper clubs that run a couple of times a month. We had our pre-Christmas date night at The Meeting Place, enjoying a wonderfully seasonal menu. Featuring a Game Scotch Egg and delicious Roast Venison. We were blown away by the food and can’t wait to go back for another supper club. Although I did just see an Instagram post announcing Sunday Lunches at The Meeting Place… I think that might be one to try soon!
We’re a bit spoilt for choice in Worcester now for donuts. Guilt Trip opened last year and I’ve definitely been a frequent visitor. A firm fave is the Biscoff Donut, whereas Dr W shouts loudly about the Espresso Glaze Donut. I’ve recently heard at their Weir Lane site they’re offering pizza, so that’s next on our list to go visit!
