All About Maverick X Series East Sussex: Purpose and Main Routes

Maverick X Series East Sussex offers 5 main routes initially chosen to show runners Britain’s beauty. The routes pass through South Downs Way, meaning runners can expect hilly terrain with elevation changes. During the run, participants will conquer Ditchling Beacon – the third highest point in South Downs National Park.

During the run, you’ll encounter:

  • Trails through green forests
  • Chalk paths
  • Trails through agricultural land

The first three routes cater to runners with different preparation levels, while Maverick Original East Sussex is perfect for those wanting to transition from regular running to trail running.

Trail running is a specific type of running conducted on rough terrain, away from familiar tarmac paths. This running involves moving across natural terrain – forests, mountains, fields, trails and off-road areas. Trail running successfully combines necessary cross-country elements with mountain running.

Within Maverick X Series East Sussex, participants are offered hilly, compacted tracks that aren’t considered too difficult. Therefore, they suit different fitness levels.

Five main routes are available:

  1. Ultra route: 50km distance with +1,349m elevation gain
  2. Long route: 42km distance with +1,070m elevation gain
  3. Medium route: 21km distance with +461m elevation gain
  4. Short route: 14km distance with +342m elevation gain
  5. Sprint route: 6km distance with +151m elevation gain

Routes must be carefully selected based on proposed distance and elevation change, indicating difficulty level. Additionally, you’ll immediately understand where the most challenging climbs await.

The number and presence of checkpoints depends on the specific route. For example, the sprint route has no checkpoints, while short and medium routes each have two checkpoints. The long route has three checkpoints, and the ultra route has four. At these checkpoints, participants can replenish equipment supplies and refuel.

How to Join Maverick Run?

Becoming part of the team is quite simple. You need to register in the Heylo app, choosing a suitable project group. For maximum convenience, all groups are divided by different districts. Therefore, when choosing a group, participants automatically join their residential district’s group. However, you can optionally join any other district’s group. The company continues developing and expanding, considering districts where running centres don’t currently exist.

Once participants join a specific group, all current runs in that district become available – check the “Events” tab. Here, participants can communicate with each other, discussing upcoming races or other interesting topics.

On the “Members” page, you can see who leads runs in specific districts. Participants can always contact their leader with questions. Trail run distances typically range from 5 to 102km.
